Troubleshooting & launch checklist
Resolve common setup problems and check the complete visitor experience.
The answer is wrong or missing
- Check Knowledge for the relevant source and remove conflicting or outdated content.
- Add precise text or Q&A for the missing information.
- Review Settings instructions, then ask the same question again in Install & test.
- Review any existing approved FAQ separately; updating knowledge does not automatically correct that published answer.
Crawl or upload failed
Make sure the URL is public and reachable without sign-in. The crawler may not read content rendered only after complex JavaScript, blocked pages or inaccessible links. Use pasted text or a readable file when needed.
If a PDF has no readable text, export a text-based version. If an upload is long, split it into focused sources and remember the retained-character limit.
The assistant is taking a short break
Check the usage bar and your plan in Billing. Your chatbot may have reached its monthly allowance.
For an own key, check its saved status, provider balance and API access. Test a replacement key if necessary. Upgrading an Own key plan without connecting a key does not unlock unlimited answers.
The embed is missing
- Check that the snippet contains the correct chatbot slug and published RankChat script address.
- Confirm your website saved the script tags and published the page. Check custom-code restrictions and content-security rules with your site administrator.
- For FAQs, approve at least one answer and check whether a topic filter hides it.
- Remove duplicate snippets and test again in a fresh tab. Allow a few minutes for cached FAQ content to refresh.
Own-domain setup is not Live
Open your chosen address directly. If it shows your usual website, a 404 or a different chatbot, check the forwarding rule and path.
Ensure that both the exact FAQ path and paths below it are forwarded. Run Check setup only after the site configuration is deployed. Keep using the FAQ embed while troubleshooting.
Ready-to-launch checklist
- Your account is confirmed and you can return to your workspace.
- Knowledge includes your current policies and contact details, without confidential information.
- The chat and Ask box give accurate answers to real test questions.
- Your chosen chat and FAQ appearance is saved.
- You reviewed and approved only accurate, public FAQs.
- Each installed snippet points to your chatbot and a published RankChat address.
- FAQs expand correctly and all controls fit on desktop and phone screens.
- Message limits or own-key billing suit your expected traffic.
- If used, your optional own-domain page and feeds are reachable.
- You have a routine for reviewing drafts and updating knowledge and copied HTML.
